ABOUT THEPROGRAM

Innovation Factory: From Research to Market is a 6-month acceleration program revolving around Technology Transfer and allowing 8 teams to develop their research or technology innovation in any sector into practical and commercially viable products and applications. The program will give them international exposure with access to local and global markets, B2B networks, and a pool of seasoned experts, mentors, and investors.

The program consists of a Bootcamp, a 3-month acceleration phase, a demo day, and a 3-month incubation phase with potential grant prizes for 2 winning teams. It is funded by the European Union under THE NEXT SOCIETY organized in Lebanon by Berytech and Anima. Applications are open till April 2, 2019.

THEBOOTCAMP

APR 10 – APR 12

Eight selected projects will have the chance to attend a 3-day intensive bootcamp from April 10 till April 12 led by local and international experts, for up to 2 people per team.

The Bootcamp’s program will focus on teamwork, networking, mentoring sessions with international and local experts, learning, applied knowledge and exchange of expertise. It will aim at helping you explore market, funding, commercialization and business opportunities and develop a valid business model for your innovation with access to:

  • Receive technical and practical guidance and interaction with mentors and experts
  • Develop your own business model and commercialization plan
  • Assess the right market opportunities and learn about intellectual property
  • Develop your commercialization and market strategy
  • Develop a process for market validation
  • Learn about basic financial modeling
  • Prepare your pitch to present it to investors and partners.

Meet Our Guest Experts

Mohab Anis is an Engineering Professor at the American University in Cairo, and the CEO at INNOVETY – a leading innovation management consulting firm, and Principal at IXL Center North Africa & Levant. Mohab is passionate about helping companies build new business concepts and has consulted widely in the areas of innovation strategy, capacity and discipline. This includes auditing business innovation capabilities, idea generation and management, and technology forecasting. Mohab has also worked with the government on strategy and policy that foster national innovation and entrepreneurship. Mohab is a certified consultant of A.T.Kearney’s House of Innovation and has delivered numerous keynotes and workshops in the area of innovation management. [ Show more ]

Earlier, Mohab spent years as a tenured professor of Computer Engineering at University of Waterloo, Canada, to which he’s now adjunct. He consulted in the US and Canada to a variety of Fortune 500 companies. He was also involved with Waterloo’s technology transfer office where he worked on identifying technologies that have the highest potential for commercialization.

As an academic, he authored 150 international papers, 5 books and 3 US patents. He is on the Editorial Board of 9 international journals and has supervised 15 Ph.D. and 16 Masters students. Mohab was awarded three of Canada’s highest awards for excellence in innovation (The Early Research Award from Ontario’s Ministry of Research and Innovation, the Colton Medal for Research Excellence and the IEEE International Design Award), as well as both of AUC’s top awards in Teaching and Research & Creative Endeavours.

Mohab holds a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo (2002), an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University with a concentration in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (2008), and a Masters in Management Sciences with a concentration in Technological Innovation (2008).

After extensive managerial experience in the corporate pharmaceutical sector, Nadine is now a partner and General Manager of Accompleash SARL, a coaching & consulting company helping business people develop their communication and leadership skills. Nadine currently holds a Certified Mentor Coach and a Certified Executive Coach from Mentorcoach USA, and a Professional Certified Coach credential from the International Coach Federation. Nadine is also certified on different psychometric tools such as EQi 2.0, one of the leading assessment tools for Emotional Intelligence and TMSDi Team Assessment Tools. In addition, Nadine is currently enrolled in a Certification Program on “Conversational Intelligence” with the WE institute founded by the late Judith Glaser.

  • Selection of 2 projects to be incubated in Berytech.
  • Potential access to a financial cash prize.

THEINCUBATIONPHASE

JUN – SEP 2019

The 2 winning teams will be granted 5 follow-up personal working meetings for each team and 2 technical assistance sessions with Berytech Business Support and Development Team to develop their business plan and be ready to meet with investors.

ELIGIBILITYCRITERIA

  • The Innovation Factory is open for technology-based innovations in any sector with a
    proof of concept that is locally developed with the potential of scalability.
  • The innovation must address major industrial, societal and environmental challenges,
    and it must be transferable (no Intellectual Property (IP) issues).
  • The project should be close to the commercialization and market application phase.
  • Applicants will be assessed based on the strength of the application, including
    technology innovation assessment, the economic viability of the project, the team
    expertise and motivation.
  • Team commitment: by entering the program, at least one member of the team should
    commit to attend the working sessions and submit required deliverables during the 6
    months period.

In 2018, Berytech organized a 3-day Technology Transfer Bootcamp: From Research to Innovation with 14 teams going through an intensive training and 2 finalists receiving incubation support: SpiceDR, an autonomous facade crawler with the purpose of performing the cleaning of high-rise buildings and facilities while eliminating the use of water from the process, and Super Powder, a substance which valorizes agro-food industrial by-products (grape pomace, pomegranate peels, orange peels, etc.) by the extraction process of highly bioactive molecules.
